Brakelining Database

Home Page

Welcome to the brakelining database, the site is managed by the Vehicle Certification Agency(VCA), part of the Department for Transport (DfT). The purpose of the site is to list Original Equipment Manfacturer(OEM) Replacement Brakelinings that comply with the provisions of Directive 2002/78/EC (see "Legislation").

"OEM Replacement Brakelinings" are linings supplied as replacement parts that are of a type referenced in the type approval documentation for a complete vehicle. Directive 2002/78/EC outlines marking and packaging requirements for OEM brakelinings and vehicle manufacturers are required to supply data for inclusion on this site, in order to aid the identification and enforcement process. If a lining package is not listed in this database, and is covered by the UK Regulations, then it must be type approved as a replacement (and hence bear an "e" or "E" mark).

Replacement brake linings supplied by aftermarket manufacturers are not covered by this database and must be separately type approved.

How do I use the site?

The site is split into a number of useful areas, designed to assist the consumer.

Database Search - this is a key area, which allows you to interrogate the database using either a lining part number or a vehicle commercial description. The final result will contain all of the information specified in the Directive and some additional information thought to be useful in aiding the identification process.

Download Area - this area will allow you to download data contained on the site as a CSV or Excel document.

FAQS - this area contains some Frequently Asked Questions.

Legislation - Directive 2002/78/EC can be viewed here.

Contacts and Links - this area contains a contact mail address for VCA and useful links.

PLEASE NOTE THAT VCA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ENFORCING THIS LEGISLATION. IF YOU WISH TO DISCUSS ENFORCEMENT THEN PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL TRADING STANDARDS OFFICE
